:: Produce hollow plastic parts, such as bottles, by injecting air under pressure into a molten mass of glass or plastic and shaping the object within a mold::
Since there is no inner molding core required in the blow molding process, parts can incorporate enclosed cavities and other features that are typically harder and more expensive to achieve in an injection molding process. Blow molding is an extremely cost-efficient manufacturing process and is typically used for high-volume manufacturing.
When creating the design of the Paint Buddy, we chose blow molding for the container portion of the product because it provided a sealed vessel to hold paint. It also allowed us to easily add other integrated features such as undercuts to secure the molded base. Blow molding is also used to produce high volume production with a low tooling cost investment.
