A Greener Ravenswood, conceived by the RCC (Ravenswood Community Council), works to establish a network of information and resources focused on local green practices and sustainability. They hold an event each year to educate the community on sustainable lifestyle and business choice.
This year’s event was held at our studio on June 12th and featured a collection of local and sustainable vendors. Guests had the opportunity to shop green foods from local vendors and enjoy delicious bites from local chefs Jordan Rose (River Valley Farmers Table), Julia Pham (Relish Underground Dinner Club) and Erwin Drechsler (Artisanal Wilmette). There were also great drinks from Koval Distillery and Begyle Brewing.
In addition, there were informative product demos and mini clinics from TURIN Bicycle and Brew Camp. Michael Prince was recognized with the Raven Award for Beyond Deisgn’s sustainability movement in the Ravenswood neighborhood.
It was a beautiful evening and a great turnout. All proceeds from the event benefit beautification and environmental education projects in the Greater Ravenswood area, including McPherson and St. Matthias elementary schools.
Today, A Greener Ravenswood intends to establish a comprehensive network of information and resources focusing on advocacy and education, with the following priorities:
• Build awareness at our local schools and model green consumer practices
• Highlight the achievements of local businesses and residents in sustainable living
• Support community gardens, parks, and open space planning
